The guesthouse sits on a quiet side street, yet everything that matters is moments away. The Jánošík Holes trailhead is a 5-minute drive, the ridge cable car 11 and Paseky 7.

Everyday life too: groceries, ATMs and the bus stop within a 10-minute walk, and a petrol station in the village.

Who would know Terchová better than a Jánošík?

Our tips you won’t find in the guidebooks:

Mountains — set off for the Jánošík Holes early in the morning to beat the crowds, and make the ridge walk easier with the cable car to Chleb. And yes — with a mountain guide you can even watch bears here.

Winter — families have the best time at Paseky, connoisseurs head for Chleb and the Oštiepková mulda: one of Slovakia’s steepest pistes, with powder after a good snowfall. Want to go higher? There are ski-touring courses nearby.

Bike — road cyclists love the loop through Zázrivá, mountain bikers have trails all over the Malá Fatra, and there’s lift-served downhill at the Paseky bike park.

Food — the best halušky are made at Haluškáreň; for a proper dinner (and an evening beer) go to Drevenice. Try Pablo’s gelato at Zmrzlinárium even in winter, and buy sheep cheese and korbáčiky at the Syrex farm on the way to Zázrivá.

For a day — the Terchová Heart lookout tower, the Jánošík exhibition in the centre, kick-scooters in Vrátna — and when it rains, the “Jánošík’s story” escape room or a half-hour drive to Žilina.

Events — in late July and early August the whole village plays music (Jánošík Days), with the Cyril and Methodius Days in early July. Book well ahead for those dates.
